I have never been on a freighter ship before, but I am moving to Wellington, New Zealand in December or January. I would like to go by freighter. i have some questions though....can you bring pets? how many bags can you have? can you just go one way? i looked at www.freighter-travel.com but didnt find one that sounds good. Can someone help me find other freighter travel to New Zealand? Thank you.

Red Sea

I looked at those sites very quickly - my connection here in Addis Ababa is a bit slow and didn't see the info that I need.

Anyone have any info on traveling the Red Sea? I'm looking for boats from Djibouti => Eritrea, Djibouti => Egypt, and Eritrea => Egypt.

Across the bering strait?

I'm not likely to find a freighter, but does anyone have any info, or ideas on finding a boat ride (fishing boat or otherwise) across the bering strait?

I'll be trying to make a crossing from Siberia over to Alaska.

Well I am all packed and ready to go. I will probably be incommunicado for at least ten days, first stop: Pusan. Maybe I can find an internet cafe there. I set up a blog: www.updownandstrange.blogspot.com where I hope to upload photos and videos.

Ports are subject to change. Two ships, the Lykes Eagle and the TMM Tabasco, formerly in the South American trade, offers a 35 day itinerary from Vancouver to Anchorage, Alaska; Tokyo, Japan; Tianjin, Qingdao and Shanghai, China and Pusan, South Korea. The vessels are U.S. owned and managed, and are registered in the U.K. The officers and crew are Indian and food onboard, therefore, is Indian. However, Lykes is aware that not all Americans enjoy Indian cuisine, and will be offering simple alternative meals. Passengers must be able to negotiate several flights of stairs. Four double cabins, located on Decks 4 and 5, are good sized, attractive with mahogany furniture, and have a sitting area with a sofa, chair and table, and mini-refrigerator.
