Vancouver........................ British Columbia
Ports are subject to change. Two ships, the Lykes Eagle and the TMM Tabasco, formerly in the South American trade, offers a 35 day itinerary from Vancouver to Anchorage, Alaska; Tokyo, Japan; Tianjin, Qingdao and Shanghai, China and Pusan, South Korea. The vessels are U.S. owned and managed, and are registered in the U.K. The officers and crew are Indian and food onboard, therefore, is Indian. However, Lykes is aware that not all Americans enjoy Indian cuisine, and will be offering simple alternative meals. Passengers must be able to negotiate several flights of stairs. Four double cabins, located on Decks 4 and 5, are good sized, attractive with mahogany furniture, and have a sitting area with a sofa, chair and table, and mini-refrigerator. All cabins have clear views. Passengers have their own lounge on Deck 5 with a multisystem VCR, audio system, games, etc. An outdoor pool is located on Deck 2, an exercise room on the Upper deck, and deck space, where passengers can lounge around in deck chairs, is plentiful.

Wow! My whole idea of freighter travel seems to be completely wrong. Mahogany furniture, outdoor pool and excercise room! I had been picturing sloshy aluminium toilets, bunk beds with the crew and tons of oatmeal. I guess I should blame it on reading "Treasure Island" at an impressionable age...

Can't do any freighter travel at this time, I'm afraid, but glad to have found this tribe for future adventures. Keep us posted on your trip, and post some pics when you come back. Good luck!
